Our Partnerships

We recognize that more can be done to ensure a sustainable supply chain.

In 2019, we made a major decision to be more directly involved in sustainability initiatives. We have committed to a greener supply chain and the implementation of our own sustainability programs in origin countries. Currently, we have established partnerships with suppliers, multinational corporations (MNC) customers, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to invest funds and efforts in cocoa sustainability programs.

World Cocoa Foundation (WCF)
In 2019, GCB became a member of the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) to cement our commitment to a long-term partnership with fellow cocoa industry participants, the governments of origin countries, NGOs and end consumers, working together to make cocoa sustainable.

Farmstrong Foundation
In 2019, we also partnered with Farmstrong Foundation, a well-established Swiss Not-For-Profit Organization, to carry out a sustainability project in Côte d’Ivoire.

Cocoa & Forests Initiative (CFI
In early 2020, GCB joined the Cocoa & Forests Initiative (CFI), a public-private partnership in collaboration with the governments of Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana and the world’s leading cocoa and chocolate companies to end deforestation and restore forest areas.

Our Action Plan

German Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa (Forum Nachhaltiger Kakao)
We are also a committed member of the German Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa (Forum Nachhaltiger Kakao) through our subsidiary SCHOKINAG-Schokolade-Industrie GmbH. As a member of the forum, SCHOKINAG enjoys the unique opportunity to actively exchange constructive views and ideas on the topic of sustainability with other actors in the cocoa value chain. We contribute to the initiative's joint effort towards improving the livelihood of cocoa farmers via Project Pro Planteur Phase II and to increase the proportion of certified sustainable cocoa in the market.
